Government Relations: GROW - Government Advocacy

PMA Grassroots Employer Toolkit - Making the Constituency Connection

Because policymakers focus their attention on the people that elect them, it is essential to establish where the members of your network live. When your advocates join PMA's GROW network, they are asked to provide their full street address for this purpose. As you develop your network within your organization, you can easily keep track of this information yourself using the following resources. All you need to ask your network members are the following questions.

  • What is your full home street address?
  • What actions are you willing to take?
  • Do you already know an elected official? If so, how?

Then, use the following resources to help you build a database in Microsoft Excel

  • PMA Action Center Zip Code Look-Up. Use the tool at this link to enter zip codes (and full street addresses if necessary) in order to identify state and federal elected officials. You can also access Committee assignments, party affiliation and other basic information about each elected official at this site.
  • Congressional District maps. Use this link to download and print maps of every Congressional district in the United States. This will help you and your advocates understand what other interests lie within the boundaries of each elected official's district.
