Highlights of the
PMA International Council's Trip to India

In March 2008, the PMA International Council embarked on a fact-finding mission to India to explore the market environment for fruits and vegetables. Deemed one of the top-five “emerging markets” for supermarket retailing by a recent PMA report, council members representing 11 countries spent an informative two days learning about the Indian market and the potential trade opportunities the Indian economy offers.

  • The agricultural industry in India is experiencing substantial growth, and it accounts for nearly 20% of the nation's GDP. Learn more
  • Despite enormous demand for produce from its population, India is exporting more produce than ever.
  • India is fast becoming a significant importer of foreign fruit. Learn more about entering the market
  • The expansion of infrastructure will enable India to become an even larger player in the world produce market.

  • “With India recently transforming the retail environment by introducing supermarkets, there is huge business potential for the global produce industry.”
