Agriculture constitutes 19.9% of India’s GDP and 60% of the country’s labor force.
The most typical imported items found in India’s retail stores (in the city) are fresh apples, grapes, pears, and kiwis. The United States, Brazil, Australia, and Europe are a few of the main suppliers.
India is a major mango exporter. Other major fruits are bananas, citrus fruits, apples, guava, and papaya.
In the vegetable sector, India is known for onions, which account for 93% of fresh vegetable exports. Potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, and cabbage are other major fresh vegetable commodities.
Fresh Flower Market
In 2005-2006 Indian floriculture exports reached US $67.78 million. However, India’s cut flower exports account for only 1% of the world’s commerce in fresh cut flowers. One of India’s top fresh cut flower exports are roses, most of which are sent to Japan (over 50%) and the Netherlands. India is in a position to grow a great number of flowers due to its variety of agro climatic zones. Carnations, gerbera, lilium, orchids, and anthurium are are a few of the main flowers that are cultivated.
