L.A. restaurant brings local food even closer to home

Jason Kim, the chef at Forage restaurant in Los Angeles, has started a program called Home Growers Circle, which lets patrons earn credits when they bring in their homegrown produce. In April, Kim was instructed to stop taking produce from home growers. "We were not allowed to accept things from 'unapproved sources,'" Kim says. Ultimately, Kim and the Forage team learned that the backyard gardeners could actually be licensed through the same system that allows traditional farmers to sell at farmers' markets.
