    The Produce Marketing Association was among seven organizations honored for their support of the U.S. Partnership for Food Safety Education at the 2010 Food Safety Education Conference, which was held March 23-26 in Atlanta. The associations were recognized for more than 10 years of participation and $2.5 million in cumulative contributions, according to a news release.

    Last week during the country of origin labeling training session held by USDA for state-level cooperators, PMA received a detailed look at how in-store reviews are conducted. Reviews consist of two parts: a visual inspection to confirm COO is being conveyed to consumers, followed by records verification.

    Cindy Seel, executive director of the Produce Marketing Association's Foundation for Industry Talent, is leaving her post March 5 to take a new association job in the Atlanta area. PMA has launched a search for Ms. Seel's replacement, said Bryan Silbermann, who serves as president of both the PMA and the foundation.

    Coming off a stint in the airline entertainment industry, Richard Owen is back to his roots in agriculture, filling a new role for the Produce Marketing Association as director of global business development. The position is a new one for the Newark, Del.-based association, and Owen has been part of its recent reorganization.
