FSMA Training

FSMA update

This last quarter of 2016 saw work on the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) continuing to move forward. Recent developments include the publishing of Voluntary Qualified Importer Program final guidance and various draft guidance documents. PMA has also published a FSMA training calendar, available to members who need mandatory FSMA training on the various implementing regulations.

Import requirements

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a final rule to establish requirements for the electronic filing of entries of FDA-regulated products offered for import into the United States. The deadline for compliance is Dec. 29, 2016.

The latest U.S. government study on pesticide residues in food shows that U.S. and imported fruits and vegetables are safe for consumers. From the data, we clearly see that those who produce the “dirty” reports irresponsibly frighten consumers, often simply to fundraise for themselves.

Farm tours with senior U.S. Food and Drug Administration policymakers and regulators prove to be a fantastic way to inform them about challenges facing the fresh produce supply chain. Such tours in California and Delaware have been an important aspect of PMA’s Issues Leadership work on the Food Safety Modernization Act.
