For 2021, our annual environmental scan looks at the most significant global economic, political, cultural, social, and technological disruptions predicted for the next three to five years and how their key outcomes, acceleration and opportunity, will impact the produce and floral industries.
Major disruptions either reverse or accelerate existing trends. Few of those disruptions have risen to the level of a global emergency like the coronavirus pandemic, which hurled the world into a devastating health and financial crisis in 2020.
The power of consumers cannot be overestimated as they can transform industries quickly. Global market research firm Euromonitor International predicts the world’s population will reach 8.1 billion by 2025, resulting in an increased need for food at a time when the availability of natural resources, including farmland and water, are expected to decline.
