PMA® Growing a Healthier World Challenge
In support of the United Nations' declaration of 2021 as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, PMA and our members are dedicated to playing our part to grow a healthier world.
The PMA Growing a Healthier World Challenge has officially launched. This challenge will allow us to:
- Encourage even greater efforts to meet our goals,
- Curate and share success stories, and
- Recognize outstanding efforts, culminating in the PMA Humanitarian of the Year Award, to be given at PMA Fresh Summit 2021
Every year is the year of fruits and vegetables for PMA members, who are working to grow a healthier world. We applaud the global spotlight the United Nations is shining on this industry and the need to increase consumption and reduce waste. There’s never been a better time to emphasize fruits and vegetables.
The U.N. concluded that the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables in 2021 provides considerable opportunity to act and make a difference within the sector, as well as to promote healthy diets for adequate nutrition. And making a difference – growing a healthier world – is what PMA members do best, and it deserves recognition.
Our executive workshop on Monday, April 19 allowed PMA to shine a spotlight on six of the most impactful and innovative programs around the globe focused on supporting the goals of the United Nations International Year of Fruits and Vegetables.

I want to share my #GrowingAHealthierWorld story
This United Nations initiative rightly recognizes an interconnected industry, by looking not only at the need to drive consumption, but also at the implications of and for production, labor, technology, sustainability, food safety, policy, trade, and more.
This effort aims to raise awareness of, direct policy attention to, and share good practices on the nutritional and health benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption, the contribution of fruit and vegetable consumption to the promotion of diversified, balanced and healthy diets and lifestyles, and reducing loss and waste of fruits and vegetables.
