Final Rule on Detention and Demurrage Billing Practices

This rule will eliminate double billing for demurrage, sets a 30-day timeframe for issuing detention and demurrage bills and clarifies who can be billed.

As well, the Final Rule stipulates that failing to include any of the required information in a detention or demurrage invoice eliminates any obligation of the billed party to pay the applicable charge.
